Single sports betting is available in Canada starting today, with Bill C-218 coming into effect.
Through the Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) will begin offering unique sports betting and race and fight betting on PlayNow.
The new offer means that PlayNow players can place a single bet on the outcome of a football match, as well as on upcoming boxing matches.
Saturday’s match between the BC Lions and Ottawa Redblacks and Sunday’s match between Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley already allow for this type of betting, along with the Seattle Seahawks’ NFL season opener on September 12th.
“This is a defining moment for BCLC and our players,” said Lynda Cavanaugh, acting president and CEO of BCLC. “We are excited to improve our offerings on PlayNow, the only gambling site operating in BC, supporting provincial initiatives such as health, education and community programs.”

BCLC noted that, as BC’s only legal online betting site, PlayNow must ensure that player protection standards are met, saying:
