The new season of European football has already started, but would you know when La Liga, that is, the Spanish Championship, starts?
Generally, the Spanish league starts in the first days of August after the athletes’ holidays and the pre-season period. In the case of the 2023/2024 season, La Liga started on August 11, 2023.
The Spanish federation announced the complete table with a calendar for all rounds. Real Madrid started their journey away from home, against Athletic Bilbao.
Barcelona, current Spanish champions, faced Getafe, also away from their fans.
But anyone who wants to know when La Liga starts is probably also interested in when the competition ends, right?
The last round of La Liga is scheduled for May 26, 2024. The two main candidates for the title already know their respective opponents for the 38th round.
The team of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Éder Militão and company will face Betis, at home, while Barça goes to Sevilla.
Dates of meetings between Real Madrid and Barcelona
The federation also announced the two dates that most interest Spanish football fans: the classics between Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The Catalan team will have the opportunity to host Real in the 11th round on October 29, 2023, at Camp Nou.
While the merengue team will face Barça on April 21, 2024, in a game valid for the 32nd round, at Santiago Bernabeú.
Who has risen and wants to remain in the elite of Spanish football?
Unlike what happens in the Brazilian Championship, La Liga demotes three teams and has another three new clubs each season.
When La Liga begins this season, Granada, Las Palmas and Alavés already have permanence as their main goal for the 2023/2024 edition.
When does La Liga start as a global brand?
LaLiga is a global, innovative and socially responsible organization, a leader in the leisure and entertainment sector.
It is a private sports association, made up of 20 football/SAD clubs from the first division and 22 from the Spanish second division, responsible for organizing professional and national football competitions in Spain.
Headquartered in Madrid, it is present in 41 countries through 13 offices and 44 delegates. In the 2019/2020 season, LaLiga reached more than 2.8 billion people around the world.
The association carries out its social action through its Foundation and is the first professional football league in the world to have a competition for football players with intellectual disabilities.
Since 2013, with the arrival of Javier Tebas as president, LaLiga has embarked on a path of growth and permanent updating based on economic control, the centralized sale of audiovisual rights and a strategy of internationalization and technological leadership.
All of this has positioned it as a reference in the sector and one of the best professional leagues in the world of sport, which allows it to attract new generations.
Thanks to all this international effort, in 2019, LaLiga received the title of Honorary Ambassador of Brand Spain in the International Relations category, “for its contribution to spreading a positive image of Spain throughout the world through football” and for “helping internationalization from both companies and Spanish athletes”.
