The rapporteur of the CPI on sports betting, Felipe Carreras (PSB), declared, through social networks, this Saturday, 19, that he will file a request for the call up of the Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paquetá, player of the English team West Ham.

According to the sports media, Paquetá is being investigated by the English Football Association (FA) for alleged involvement of close people in sports betting on cards.

“The CPI of manipulation in football is attentive to the suspicions of involvement of the player Paquetá with a sports betting scheme”, wrote the deputy in his profile on X (former Twitter).

“We will join efforts with the English football federation to ensure that the investigation is swift and responsible. I will present a request to summon him to the commission”, he added.

According to Portal G1, the rapporteur for the CPI on sports betting claimed that he will still talk to the president of the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry, Julio Arcoverde (PP).

Carreras’ intention is that the call request be voted on this Tuesday, the 22nd, the date on which the Commission will receive the president of the CBF Arbitration Commission, Wilson Seneme.

Lucas Paqueta situation

The English federation investigates bets made on accounts of people close to Paquetá. The matched bet predicted that he would take a yellow card in the Premier League game between West Ham and Aston Villa.

According to the Metro1 website, the bet also pointed out that Luiz Henrique would be cautioned with a yellow card in the game between Real Betis (his team) and Villareal. Both players received yellow cards.

Because of this investigation, Lucas Paquetá had his negotiation with Manchester City suspended and was not called up by Fernando Diniz for the first two games of the Brazilian team for the World Cup Qualifiers.

However, Paquetá played normally for West Ham against Chelsea this Sunday, the 20th, scoring one of the team’s winning goals. He scored from the penalty spot.

About the sports betting CPI

The sports betting CPI is chaired by Deputy Julio Arcoverde (PP-PI) and reported by Deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE). Work began on May 17 with an initial deadline of 120 days.

The initiative to create the collegiate was based on investigations carried out by the Public Ministry of Goiás that raised suspicions of manipulation in games of the Brazilian Championship last year, as well as in state games this year.

Several players related to the scheme have already been judged by sports justice and have been punished with fines, suspensions and even banishment from football.
