Starlizard Integrity Services (SIS), a division specializing in ensuring the integrity of Starlizard sports betting, has reported that there are indications of match fixing in 79 football matches.

The games took place in different regions of the world during the period from January 1 to June 30, 2023.

Among this set, 40 matches (equivalent to 51%) took place in Europe, while another 11 (14%) took place in South America.

The study also highlights that 28 suspect matches were held in three countries, with one of those countries hosting 12 of those suspect matches.

Starlizard highlighted: “The 79 games considered ‘suspicious’ in the first half of 2023 represent 0.48% of a total of 16,336 football games analyzed by SIS during the period”.

“This compares to 84 ‘suspicious’ matches (0.45%) out of a total of 18,845 games analyzed for the same period in 2022”, added the company.

The integrity agency has been monitoring suspicious games and seeks to promote sports integrity.

SIS classifies a match as suspicious when it identifies unusual patterns in the bets associated with it, which could signal the possibility of match fixing.

“The latest data also points to an increase in suspicious activity in more specialized markets such as first half betting. This highlights the variety of categories in which match manipulation attempts can occur,” concluded Affy Sheikh, Head of Starlizard Integrity Services.

Lucas Paquetá is investigated for match fixing

It was announced last week that the FA is investigating bets placed on accounts of people close to Paquetá.

The matched bet predicted that he would take a yellow card in the Premier League game between West Ham and Aston Villa.

Due to this investigation, the negotiation of Lucas Paquetá with Manchester City was interrupted and Fernando Diniz chose not to call him up for the first two games of the Brazilian team in the World Cup Qualifiers.
