A lucky man from Australia won a double prize in the local lottery after, by mistake, doubling the bet had to be made. In total, the man received 2.1 million Australian dollars (about 8.2 million reais at the current price).

A resident of the city of Boronia, in the southeastern part of the country, the man – who had his identity kept confidential – said he always plays in the same dozens. As bets are placed automatically, he only renewed the tens for the draw made last weekend, without noticing that he bet twice with the same game.

The lucky guy had his game drawn and won the prize twice. When the contest organization contacted the winner, he said that he had not noticed at the time that he had purchased two similar tickets.

“I play every week and I usually just hit the ‘play again’ button. I didn’t realize I hit it twice,” he said. “It was the best mistake ever. I would be happy to make some more mistakes like that,” he joked.

According to the winner, these dozens were selected a long time ago by their family members. “We put all the numbers in a box, and I asked each member of my family to get one. So these are special numbers – they are not birthdays or anything,” said the Australian.

When asked what he will do with the duplicate prize, he was sincere and acknowledged that he has no idea how he will spend the jackpot he received by chance.

Australia’s biggest lottery prize

Even though the lucky one from Boronia, in the southeastern part of the country, won a considerable amount of money, the amount is still a far cry from the biggest prize ever paid by Australia’s lottery. The largest jackpot ever drawn in the country was 111.9 million Australian dollars.
