Right-back Rafael, from Botafogo, had a prominent participation in the main event of the WSOP (World Series of Poker) Circuit Brazil, which took place in Windsor Barra, Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.
The player ended his participation in 28th place, winning a prize of R$11,800. The grand champion will receive a prize of R$460 thousand.
Rafael is among the top 35 at the WSOP
On the third day of the tournament, held last Tuesday (19), there were 35 players remaining, and Rafael was in 25th place in chips.
Currently off at Botafogo, Rafael and his teammates will return to training next Friday (22), after four days of rest during the FIFA Data.
The team is preparing for the finals of the Taça Rio and, mainly, for its debut in the Conmebol Libertadores.
But at 33 years old, Rafael spent eight months on the sidelines due to a ruptured patellar tendon in July 2023. Recently recovered, the player renewed his contract with the club until the end of the year and is already considering the possibility of retirement.
In the world of poker, Rafael advanced to the 3rd day of the main event of the World Championship. So, to give you an idea, the WSOP had the participation of 656 players and had a buy-in (registration value) of R$4,000.
Rafael started the 3rd day with 525,000 chips. The tournament leader was Caio Araújo, with 2,645,000 chips, followed by Anthony Barranqueiros, with 2,300,000 and Caio Ozawa, with 2,260,000 chips.
Therefore, in total, the WSOP Circuit Brazil poker main event distributed more than R$2.5 million in prizes to the 95 best placed. The runner-up received R$282,000 and third place R$200,000.
