Exclusive Ian Holmes comments on the increase in sports betting in Formula 1 and the expectation for the Las Vegas GP

The SPORTEL Rendez-vous Miami 2023 kicked off this Tuesday, the 9th, bringing together the main players in the technology and sports media industry in the Americas. The iGaming Brazil portal took the opportunity to speak with Ian Holmes, director of media rights and content creation at Formula 1.

With the city of Miami receiving a test of the most important modality of world motorsport in the coming days, Homes spoke about the need to present a diversity of tracks throughout the seasons.

“We recognize that street circuits have a slightly different component, but the important thing is to have variety. We don’t want a street race just because it’s a street race,” he explained.

Regarding holding the Las Vegas Grand Prix in November, he extolled the ‘phenomenal’ opportunity to be in the ‘entertainment city’. “I think visually, it’s going to be the event of the year,” Holmes said.

Sports betting on Formula 1

Asked about the rise of sports betting in Formula 1, Ian Holmes argued that the betting industry has changed and that “there are much more short and immediate forms of betting, it’s not just who will win the race”.

For him, this growth is due to the countless situations that can happen in sporting events “in the next five minutes, ten minutes. I think Formula 1 lends itself better to this type of proposal than other sports”, he concluded.
