BetMGM has announced the expansion of its partnership with the National Hockey League (NHL) and revealed exciting plans to develop hockey-themed casino games.

The extension of the multi-year agreement will maintain BetMGM as the Official Sports Betting and Gaming Partner of the professional hockey league.

Details of the partnership between BetMGM and NHL

The new chapter of the partnership will allow the sports betting and iGaming operator to create personalized VIP experiences for fans. BetMGM ads will continue to appear during national NHL broadcasts.

“There’s a winner in our partnership extension with the NHL. It empowers us to enhance the BetMGM product and deliver memorable experiences to our fans centered on the sport they love,” said BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt.

“The NHL is more exciting than ever – a symphony of athletic skill, teamwork and dexterity on skates.”

Controlled by MGM Resorts International in North America through a joint venture with UK-based Entain, BetMGM has been the official sports betting partner of the NHL since October 2018.

This came just five months after the U.S. Supreme Court said states had the freedom to determine their own sports betting laws.

NHL pioneering

The NHL was quick to embrace legal betting, being the 1st among the four leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL) to allow a franchise to set up shop in Las Vegas.

The Vegas Golden Knights, in just their fifth year of existence, are the current Stanley Cup champions.

Another highlight of the partnership extension is BetMGM’s commitment to developing NHL-branded casino games. These interactive products, including slots and table games, will be available in states where BetMGM operates its online casino platform.

Currently, only six states in the US allow online casino gaming: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, West Virginia and Delaware. BetMGM did not specify which interactive developer will be responsible for the NHL games.

This announcement follows the successful launch of BetMGM’s Dual Play Roulette in New Jersey, allowing online players to interact with a live dealer. All this through an operational partnership with Evolution Gaming.

As the NHL approaches the halfway point of the 2023-24 season, the league continues to strengthen its strategic partnerships in sports betting and iGaming.
