The sports betting CPI is chaired by Deputy Julio Arcoverde (PP-PI) and reported by Deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE). The initiative to create the collegiate stemmed from investigations carried out by the Public Ministry of Goiás (MPGO) that raised suspicions of manipulation in the result of four Serie B games.

Parliamentarians believe that irregularities have also been committed in matches from other series. MPGO’s Maximum Penalty Operation encountered problems even in games from Série A do Brasileirão last year, as well as from state championships this year.

It should be noted that some athletes have already been punished sportingly in the first instance with fines, suspensions and bans.
