The Sports Betting CPI has requests to hear three representatives of Palmeiras: player Gabriel Menino, coach Abel Ferreira and president Leila Pereira. Regarding the athlete, the new request was made by federal deputy Adil Filho, from the Republicans of Maranhão.

Again, the question refers to a move that occurred in the duel between Vasco and Palmeiras, in the second round of the Brazilian Championship. On the occasion, Gabriel kicks a ball to the side right after leaving the game. The player has already published videos on his social networks showing that he is trained and performed in other games.

“The request relates to the fact that the (sic) press reported the possible involvement of Gabriel Vinicius Menino, a midfielder for the Clube de Futebol Palmeiras (sic), in the manipulation of football matches”, says the request. There is, however, no indication that Gabriel Menino is involved.

At bookmakers, it is possible to bet on which will be the first dead ball of the game and, in the confrontation, a lateral was scored with a few seconds of play. In the request, the deputy requests information from Sports Betting Sites, without saying which ones, about bets involving Palmeiras in games in which Menino participated in the Brasileirão.

According to Lance!, there is no prediction that it will be taken to a vote.

Abel Ferreira is the only technician with a requirement to be heard at the CPI of sports betting

Deputy Danilo Forte (União/CE) submitted a request for Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira and club president Leila Pereira to be heard. The reason for listening to the Portuguese is to “provide information about facts related to the involvement of Palmeiras players in the manipulation of football matches”, even if no player from the club is yet investigated. Abel is the only technician mentioned in 213 applications submitted.

The motivation for welcoming Leila Pereira to the sports betting CPI is as follows: “The summoning of the President of Palmeiras, Leila Pereira, to the sports betting CPI, is based on relevant and worrying facts related to the fraud scheme in sports betting discovered by the Police Federal in Operation Penalty Maximum II.” In the second phase of the operation, no Palmeiras player is mentioned.

It is worth remembering that federal deputy Luciano Vieira (PL-RJ) submitted a request a month ago for Gabriel Menino to be invited to attend. However, the repercussions had a negative impact and generated revolt in the São Paulo club. The deputy ended up giving up the request.

The player published an official note on his social networks denying any involvement and stressing that he would resort to justice against those who started the rumors. The issue involving Gabriel Menino began to gain repercussions after the publication of a video by an influencer citing the respective bid, which had already been made by the athlete in another game.

“I was never involved with sports betting episodes. In my personal and professional life, I care for ethics, loyalty and the principles of legality. I’m an employee of a great institution, with millions of fans, and I respect that relationship a lot. I know my duties and what I represent to all these people”.

“I inform you that my legal staff will file, as soon as possible, a criminal complaint against the person responsible for insinuating my participation in a sports betting scheme, an issue widely publicized by the media in recent days, in a bid at the beginning of the second half of the match against Vasco da Gama”, said the official note published on May 9.
