Palmeiras player Gabriel Menino published this Tuesday, 9, that he will file a criminal complaint against people who insinuated on social media their alleged participation in a betting and manipulation scheme in situations of football matches.
The play cited is the ball out in the second stage of the 2-2 tie between Vasco da Gama and Palmeiras, played at Maracanã, on April 23. Upon receiving the ball, the athlete from Verdão amends a throw that ends up lateral to the opposing team.
Gabriel Menino posted a video on his profile in which he points out that this is a move trained by the team and that it has already happened successfully in the Paulista Championship decision against Água Santa, at Allianz Parque.
“I was never involved with sports betting episodes. In my personal and professional life, I care for ethics, loyalty and the principles of legality. I’m an employee of a great institution, with millions of fans, and I respect that relationship a lot. I know my duties and what I represent to all these people,” he wrote.
“I inform you that my legal staff will file, as soon as possible, a criminal complaint against the person responsible for insinuating my participation in a sports betting scheme, an issue widely publicized by the media in recent days, in a bid at the beginning of the second half of the match against Vasco da Gama”, added the midfielder.
According to the athlete’s statement, the criminal complaint must be registered this Wednesday, 10. Today, Palmeiras with Gabriel Menino returns to the field to face Grêmio, starting at 21:30, in São Paulo. The match will be valid for the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.
Insinuations about Gabriel Menino and alleged betting scheme may have come from an influencer
According to news from GE, one of the targets is influencer Raiam Santos. He published on his page that he would ‘remain’ for the Palmeiras athlete after the case of defender Eduardo Bauermann, now temporarily removed by Santos due to the disclosure of conversations with bettors.
The legal team of the alviverde club, however, found other insinuations on social platforms and intends to take the appropriate measures. Bearing in mind that there is an ongoing investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Goiás on the manipulation of football match situations, in Operation Maximum Penalty.
