Financial operations through the PIX are expected to move around BRL 52 billion in sports betting in 2023, according to a recent survey by Gmattos de Pagamentos.

For Darwin Filho, CEO of Esportes da Sorte, the creation of the PIX was crucial not only for the increase in bets, but also for the popularization of bookmakers. “The instantaneousness of transactions and from deposit to withdrawal, made customers who are used to playing in other spheres migrate to online gambling due to the ease of transaction”, he explained in an interview with Veja.

PIX favored gamblers and bookmakers

Before that, platforms had difficulty accepting Brazilians, since clearing transactions was considered too slow. The resource is the most accepted payment method by bookmakers in Brazil and, in this first quarter of this year alone, it has already moved more than R$ 13 billion, an amount that is eight times greater than in relation to the same period of 2022.

“After the introduction of the PIX, there was an explosion in the number of users. Today, on gaming platforms, 93% of transactions are made via Pix, and the rest via boleto and TED,” said Cristiano Maschio, CEO of Qesh, a company specializing in payment processing.

The preference for the PIX is more due to the agility and immediate deposit in the customer’s account. “The PIX reveals the need for controls and clear rules for the use of means of payment, observing the best practices in combating money laundering, misuse of personal data and practices that violate the principles of responsible gaming”, said Marcos Sabia, CEO fromgalley.bet.

“In the past, the biggest difficulty was the speed at which these deposits took place. Now they happen almost simultaneously. Automatically, the interest in the number of bets increased substantially”, added Hans Schleier, marketing director of Casa de Apostas.
