PIX is the most accepted form of payment by bookmakers in Brazil. The information was pointed out by the Gmattos Payments Study, which, in its May edition, promoted a specific assessment of this sector, in addition to proving the growth of the PIX in acceptance among the main players in e-commerce.

The online betting sector moved about US$ 2.7 billion in the first quarter in the national territory, according to the Central Bank. This is an amount more than eight times greater than that estimated for the same period in 2022. The projection is that it will exceed the US$ 11 billion mark by the end of the year.

Study points out advantages of PIX over other forms of payment

The Gmattos Payments Study evaluated the payment methods accepted by 10 of the main bookmakers in operation and observed that PIX is the preferred method by these companies, with 100% acceptance.

In second place in the predilection of this market are the wallets, not so popular among Brazilians. However, most of them are not local, they also operate via PIX, in addition to transfers and cards in some cases.

“As a general rule, these houses need to confirm the immediate liquidity of the deposit made by the customer, since it is possible to bet on events that start moments after the payment load”, said Gastão Mattos, co-founder and general director of Gmattos Consultoria.

“In this way, the PIX becomes ideal in this context because it has a high conversion rate, high penetration in the target audience and is a cash transfer, serving both for depositing values to bet and for receiving any prizes won”, added.

The other modalities accepted in the segment present some difficulty. In the case of wallets or credit cards, for example, the low conversion and high risk of fraud negatively impact both buyers and sellers.

Bank slips are losing ground due to the time required of more than 48 hours for payment confirmation, and bank transfers have low conversion due to the need for authentication in the buyer’s bank environment.
