The president of the Court of Sports Justice of Amazonas, Dr. Edson Rosas, delivered, this Monday morning (19), the copies of the process on the scandal of alleged manipulation of results – for benefit in sports betting – in Series B of the Amazonense Championship to the Attorney General of Justice of Amazonas, Dr. . Alberto Rodriguez.

“According to the decision of the STJD, which upheld the decision of the TJD-AM, we delivered copies of the records to the Attorney General of Justice, so that he can forward the proper attorney and observe if there was any violation of the Fan Statute , as it already goes beyond the sports sphere and enters the criminal sphere”, said Dr. Edson Rosas.

The Deputy Attorney General for Legal and Institutional Affairs, Dr. Nicolau Libório, and the Attorney General of TJD-AM, Dr. Bruno Glória, were also present in addition to Rosas and Rodrigues. The case was judged in the sports sphere – both by the TJD-AM and by the STJD – and now may result in punishments in the criminal sphere for those involved.

The Doctor. Alberto Rodrigues commented: “We received this material so that we can distribute it to the competent prosecutors, mainly in the criminal area, to continue this investigative work. The Public Ministry has this duty, this role with society and Amazonas can’t have that stain”.

“I’m sure there will be results so that we can further improve this security system and, above all, prevent fraud within our sport”, added Rodrigues.

“The Public Prosecutor’s Office, being aware of this whole situation, will certainly adopt the necessary measures. Dr. Alberto received the document and this document will already be distributed. The concern that the TJD has is the same concern that the Public Ministry has too. After all, sport is important to society,” says Dr. Nicholas Liborio.

See the repercussions of the match-fixing case

On September 4, 2022, a match from Série B of the Amazonense Championship received the world’s spotlight, even being reported in the newspaper Marca, from Spain. The case happened in the game between Atlético Amazonense and Sul América – where Atlético lost by 3 to 1 and the number 8 shirt of the team, Júlio Campos, scored an own goal on purpose in the last minute of the match, which ended in 4 to 1 .

Four days later, a series of evidence emerged pointing to the involvement of state club leaders in an alleged match-fixing scheme – with the aim of generating profit through sports betting sites. The evidence presented by the ‘A Crítica’ report ended up being used by the TJD-AM attorney, who filed a complaint against the athlete responsible for the own goal, the two clubs and the two managers.

Henrique Barbosa, president of Atlético Amazonense, was even banned from football in Amazonas and claimed that he was being “persecuted” by the TJD-AM, appealing the imposed sanction. At the STJD, the agent was punished with a fine of R$ 50,000.00 (fifty thousand reais) and 840 days of suspension.

After the case, the team was suspended for 12 matches and received a fine of R$ 50,000, while Júlio Campos received a fine of R$ 25,000 and will serve a 300-day suspension.

In addition, the Librade 3×2 Tarumã match – which took place on July 30, 2022 – was also reported for match fixing. Tarumã was fined BRL 20,000 and given a 180-day suspension. The team leader, Junior Bahia, received a fine of R$ 100,000 and was suspended for 360 days.

“With the confirmation of the punishments by the STJD, we are bringing this process to be opened at the Public Ministry of Amazonas, so that possible crimes on the part of those involved can be investigated and, thus, guarantee the maximum effectiveness of the decisions of the sporting justice. The TJD-AM will do everything possible, within its reach, to obtain the accountability of the people who want to blemish and commit crimes in Amazonian football”, highlights Dr. Bruno Gloria.
