Bookmakers have a period of 10 days to prove that they operate legally in Rio de Janeiro. This determination came from Procon-RJ.

The notification took place this Wednesday, 13th, in compliance with a state decree. The evaluation, therefore, will be carried out by employees specialized in Consumer Law.

Procon-RJ requires authorization from Loterj

Furthermore, this rule establishes that companies that work with lottery modalities in Rio de Janeiro have authorization from Loterj (Lottery of the State of Rio de Janeiro).

According to Loterj, the illegal sale of online sports betting puts the consumer at risk, compromises reliability and integrity, and can be seen as an abusive practice and inappropriate service.

About Loterj

The Rio de Janeiro State Lottery is an agency of the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro linked to the State Secretariat of the Civil House, responsible for the administration, management and supervision of the game in all municipalities in the State.

After the ban on casinos, federal and state lotteries became the official gambling alternative in Brazil.

From then on, the number lottery began to be operated by the former LOTERJ in Niterói, capital of the State of Rio de Janeiro. In the 1960s, the then State of Guanabara gained LOTEG for the same purpose. In 1975, with the merger, the two companies unified.

In 1991, Loterj introduced itself to the market as a pioneer in the commercialization of a new type of game, the Instant Lottery, better known as Scratch Card.

Rio received the game very well, which to date has sold approximately 1 billion tickets, having even reached the extraordinary mark of 4 million tickets sold in just one day at that time.

In 2007, it launched the Rio de Prêmios game, with draws broadcast live. In 2018, it added Super Points as an additional category.

However, Rio de Prêmios stands out for drawing all the prizes every week, guaranteeing at least one winner for each one. The game is exclusive to the State and does not accumulate unclaimed prizes.

In 2019, LOTERJ launched Triple Chance, similar to Rio de Prêmios, exclusive to the South Fluminense region.

Currently, the cities included are Angra dos Reis, Barra Mansa, Barra do Piraí, Itatiaia, Pinheiral, Piraí, Porto Real, Quatis, Resende, Rio Claro, Valença, Vassouras and Volta Redonda.
