The Full Court of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) punished this Thursday, 13, four more players for match-fixing in football matches in 2022.

The athletes who played for Sampaio Corrêa last year were punished with different penalties, from suspension to elimination, by the plenary auditors.

In June, they were punished by the 5th Disciplinary Commission.

This time André, who had only been punished with a fine in the first instance, was suspended for 600 days. In addition, he received a R$ 50 thousand fine.

While Matheusinho and Paulo Sérgio had their sentences reduced from 720 days to 600 days. But they were also fined R$50,000.

Ygor Catatau remains banned from Brazilian football

At the trial, the auditors upheld the elimination of Ygor Catatau and the fine of R$70,000.

This is because the player was identified by the court auditors as an intermediary for Sampaio Corrêa athletes.

Thus, the complaint by the STJD Attorney’s Office was based on the evidence collected by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Goiás in Operation Maximum Penalty.

The case’s rapporteur, auditor Maurício Neves Fonseca, demanded exemplary punishment for athletes judged for involvement in match-fixing.

“Sporting integrity is threatened. Match-fixing affects the very foundation of sport, therefore, athletes involved in a scheme that violates sporting principles must be severely punished”, stated the auditor.

Manipulation affronts the basic principles of the sport, which is its unpredictability, integrity, fair play, in addition to disrespect for the opponent and the public”, he added.

The Public Ministry of Goiás (MP-GO) is carrying out the investigations. Therefore, MP-GO investigates a scheme involving criminal groups that made money from bets related to specific bids.

Irregularities involved games from Series A and B of the Brazilian 2022. In addition, some State games this year are also being investigated.
