Drake loses millionaire value after youtuber defeat in boxing match

Singer Drake is gaining notoriety around the world not only for his music, but also for not being afraid to place bets with significant amounts on sporting events. This weekend, the rapper once again tried to nail the result of the boxing match between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury.

Confident with the youtuber’s invincibility, the singer bet around US$400,000, approximately R$2 million at the current exchange rate, on Paul’s victory over his opponent. However, the digital influencer faced his first defeat in professional sport this Sunday, the 26th. The setback caused the singer a millionaire loss.

The fight between Paul and Fury took place this Sunday night in Saudi Arabia and was broadcast live in Brazil. If the youtuber had beaten his opponent by knockout, the musician would have received around 1.4 million dollars, about R$ 7.5 million.

In the ring, the opponents had a very balanced fight and after eight rounds the decision was up to the judges. In terms of scoring Tommy Fury did better and two judges scored the fight 76-73 for him, while only one gave victory to Jake Paul, 75-74.

It is worth remembering that the youtuber joined boxing in 2018 and, from then on, continued to fight professionally and reached six victories until this Sunday’s clash. Paul has four knockout wins. But, Fury was the first professional boxer the influencer faced since his debut.

Drake’s sports betting history

Drake has drawn attention for his daring bets on various sports. In 2022, he lost R$ 10 million betting on Israel Adesanya, who was defeated by Brazilian Alex Poatan.

The Canadian rapper was also frustrated in the World Cup decision, when he invested R$ 5 million in Argentina’s 2-1 victory, in normal time, against France. The team captained by Messi won the title, but on penalties.
