Nebraska Gaming and Racing Commission approves rules for sports betting

The State Racing and Gaming Commission approved the rules for sports betting in Nebraska last Friday, October 21st.

“What this means for Nebraska is that we are connecting the dots based on voter intent,” Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission Chair Dennis Lee told reporters after Friday’s meeting.

The rules, which are already listed in state law, will go to the Attorney General’s Office for review. Subsequently, the policies will need to be approved by the governor and the secretary of state.

As per the approved rules, no betting would be allowed on any sporting event where the greatest number of athletes are under the age of 18.

Also according to state law, betting would only be allowed in person – in specific sports betting areas, including game rooms and kiosks. Gamblers could gamble with cash or vouchers, bonus credits, cash equivalents, chips, a funded account or debit cards.

“Under our bylaws, sports betting can only take place at physical locations,” said CEO Tom Sage. “There are no mobile stakes outside the facility, or even within the facility.”

Under state law, betting on any sports team on college competitions in Nebraska playing a game in the state would be prohibited.
