UK online gambling revenue rises by 5 in Q1

The Gambling Commission reported that UK licensed market online gambling (GGY) revenue reached £1.3 billion in the first quarter of the new financial year.

This represents a 5% increase over the previous year.

The growth was driven by a 12% rise in real event betting revenue to £538m, likely aided in part by the Grand National in April.

Online slots GGY rose 3% to £583m.

The Commission reported that the number of bets and spins increased by 6%, while the average number of monthly active accounts increased by 5%.

The number of bets increased by 7% in the quarter, totaling £20bn, while the average number of monthly active accounts increased by 12%, totaling £4m.

Monthly online revenue was down 15.8% in June, which could be due to seasonal factors.

Retail GGY for the quarter increased by just 0.7% year-on-year to £588m.

The number of bets and spins decreased by 2%, totaling £3.3 billion.

The figures are based on reports from the UK’s largest operators, estimated to represent approximately 80% of the gambling market.

The number of online slots sessions lasting over an hour decreased by 0.2% year-on-year in Q1, totaling £8.4m.

The total number of sessions increased by 5.8%, with 6.3% of all sessions lasting over an hour.

Average session length decreased slightly to 16 minutes for the first time in the data.

The total number of customer interactions in Q1 decreased by 13% to £2.9m, the majority being automated in nature.

The number of direct interactions carried out by operators increased by 35% compared to the previous year.

The region continues to register expressive growth and the trend is to continue in this ascension.
