On Tuesday (26), the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) postponed the vote on a bill that proposes changes to the distribution of resources from the Timemania lottery, administered by Caixa Econômica Federal.

The proposal was presented by senator Veneziano Vital do Rêgo (MDB-PB) in PL 3,723/2021. The intention is to modify the criteria for distributing resources between football clubs. Thus, based on the indication marked by bettors as “favorite team”.

Currently, the distribution of Timemania resources favors Brazilian football Series A, B and C clubs, which receive 22% of the amount raised.

On the other hand, the clubs that do not participate in these divisions of the Brasileirão, share only 11% of the total collected, without considering the bettors’ preference for the “favorite team”.

It is worth noting that Timemania encompasses a total of 80 clubs.

Senator Veneziano highlights that the current criteria harms teams like Treze da Paraíba, which, despite having a significant vote as a “heart team”, earns less due to its rare participation in the main divisions.

The project received a favorable opinion from the rapporteur, senator Rodrigo Cunha (Podemos-AL). However, the Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) postponed the vote due to the lack of quorum at the meeting.

This is because the senators held a public hearing on the debts of federal entities with the Union before the vote.

Another project postponed in addition to the PL involving the Timemania lottery

In addition to the Timemania project, the analysis of PL 675/2019, presented by senator Weverton (PDT-MA), was also postponed. This project proposes the forgiveness of debts related to loans registered in the name of members of community associations in the municipality of Rosário (MA).

These agreements were made during the construction of the city’s clothing hub. The rapporteur, senator Irajá (PSD-TO), issued a favorable opinion to the proposal.
