Haddad says that PL to regulate sports betting will be in the Chamber soon

The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, announced that the government has plans to present a bill to the Chamber of Deputies in August, with the aim of regulating sports betting.

This Wednesday, July 19, the topic was discussed during a meeting between Haddad and the Chamber President, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), in Brasília.

The government’s economic team estimates that the taxation of bets could generate a collection of at least 12 billion reais.

One of the steps prior to sending the bill to Congress was completed on Tuesday, July 18, when the government published a provisional measure creating positions for the new Secretariat for Betting and Lotteries, which will report to the Treasury.

Furthermore, in the next few days, the federal administration intends to issue a decree for the reactivation of Lotex, popularly known as “scratch card”.

Government announced 65 vacancies in the new Secretariat for Betting and Lotteries

Recently, the Federal Government’s economic team resolved the last issue that was preventing the advancement of one of the main proposals for revenue in the Federal Congress: the taxation of sports betting.

This decision was taken through the publication of a provisional measure (MP) in an extra edition of the Union Official Gazette, which establishes the creation of positions for the new Secretariat for Betting and Lotteries, linked to the Ministry of Finance.

217 vacancies were created in this folder, 65 of which will be dedicated specifically to the sports betting segment.

The new secretariat will be responsible for evaluating the documentation of operators seeking accreditation in Brazil, in addition to monitoring the flow of transactions and collection related to this sector.

How much will a license be in Brazil?

In accordance with the recently planned rules for the taxation of sports betting, a bookmaker can only operate in the country with authorization granted by the Federal Government.

To obtain this authorization, the bookmaker will need to pay a grant in the amount of BRL 30 million, establish its headquarters in the national territory and have a minimum capital of BRL 100 thousand.
