The Commission for Education, Sustainable Development and Tourism of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (ALRS) approved the creation of a subcommittee with the aim of regulating electronic sports betting. The proposition was authored by Deputy Marcus Vinícius (PP) and was analyzed at the ordinary meeting of the collegiate, held on the morning of this Wednesday, 5.

The author of the initiative stated that electronic betting has been authorized by federal law since 2018, but is still not effectively regulated. “It is a new activity and there is no clarity about how many houses can operate, what are the requirements, how is the hiring of labor and taxation. In Latin America, only Brazil and Colombia have not regulated the sector”, he justified.

According to Marcus Vinícius, the segment has the potential to collect 14 to 16 billion in taxes per year and defended that the resources should not be concentrated in the Union’s coffers. He also stated that, in addition to accumulating discussion so that the Assembly can legislate on residual matter, the subcommittee will intend to contribute to the formation of an opinion on the matter.

Participating in the meeting were deputies Dirceu Franciscon (União), Zé Nunes (PT), Guilherme Pasin (PP), Miguel Rossetto (PT), Marcus Vinícius, Rodrigo Lorenzoni (PL), Elton Weber (PSB) and Eduardo Loureiro (PDT), in addition to the chairman of the commission, Gustavo Victorino (Republicans).
