West Ham player Lucas Paquetá is being investigated for involvement in sports betting, after receiving a yellow card in a match against Aston Villa on March 12, 2023.
Paquetá, who is one of the main highlights of the London club, was even approached by Manchester City. But the team had given up on the possible signing of the player after all the exposure resulting from the investigation of the case.
Investigation of Paquetá’s alleged bets
With the investigations nearing their end, Manchester City once again expressed interest in signing the athlete. Therefore, the club is waiting for a favorable resolution to redo its proposal.
In October, Lucas Paquetá gave full access to his cell phone to investigators.
According to information from Football Insider, Manchester City is ready to resume negotiations with West Ham with a view to counting on Paquetá’s good football, as long as the investigations do not obstruct the deal again.
Six months ago, the Hammers accepted an offer of around 80 million pounds for the player, a figure that, if presented again, would tend to be accepted by the London club.
Lucas Paquetá’s performance in the 2023/24 season
Above all, the player is a great promise in world football, and has played for several clubs in Europe, in addition to wearing the Brazilian national team’s shirt.
However, Paquetá was no longer called up to wear the Canarinho shirt since the beginning of investigations into his alleged involvement with betting. The outcome of the case could represent his return to the team now led by Dorival Jr.
