Allwyn posts 24% increase in betting revenue in 2022

European lottery and casino operator Allwyn Group, formerly Sazka, announced strong results for its first full year under new name. The group reported consolidated revenue of €4 billion, up 24% on the previous year. Net income increased by 25% to €2.5 billion and adjusted EBITDA by 21% to €1.2 billion.

The company attributed the growth to online operations and its Austrian and international casino business. Q4 revenue increased by 13% to €1.1 billion.

Group President Robert Chvatal said: “I am pleased to report that Allwyn achieved another year of strong financial results in 2022, reflecting our continued successful execution of our organic and inorganic growth strategies.”

“These results demonstrate how much the business has progressed in recent years, with total revenue and EBITDA growing by over 90% since 2019 – a period during which we also more than once changed Adjusted EBITDA, significantly increased our share of our existing businesses and strengthened our platform and broadened our strategy and diversification by securing entries into the UK and US markets.”

“While delivering this strong performance, we remain focused on our responsibilities to all stakeholders and safer gaming,” added Chvatal.

Allwyn said that inflationary pressures affecting consumer sentiment had a limited impact on its business due to lower prices on many products and low average customer spending.

Allwyn’s Strategic Outlook for 2023

Looking ahead, the company is now effectively running the UK National Lottery, having purchased Camelot UK from the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan (OTPP). It also purchased Camelot Lottery Systems. Your own license to run the lottery starts in February next year.

Meanwhile, Allwyn increased its presence in Greece by acquiring a 36.75% stake in Betano and increasing its stake in lottery operator OPAP to over 50%.

Chvatal said: “We continue to make great progress with this strategy in 2023, completing two landmark acquisitions. First, the acquisition of Camelot UK, the current operator of the UK National Lottery, which supports the successful delivery of the National Lottery through 2023 and in the next decade”.

“Second, we acquired Camelot Lottery Solutions, which operates the Illinois Lottery, adding a seventh lottery marketplace to our network and providing an exciting strategy with a great platform in the US market and in-house iLottery technology.” .
