Goiânia City Hall advanced in its project to create a municipal lottery, hiring a company specialized in lottery services for its implementation. The contract will last 12 months and cost R$15,000 monthly to the municipal coffers.

The city takes an important step towards the implementation of this public service, authorized by Law No. 11,052, of September 29, 2023.

Thus, the project regulations, made by decree No. 5,347, published on December 1, 2023, establish:

  • The creation of the lottery
  • Management Committee responsible for its management

The advantages of a municipal lottery

So, this initiative, created by councilor Léo José, seeks to allocate the revenue obtained from the lottery to different areas of the city hall. The areas most favored by the project will be health, education, sport, tourism and social security.

But, despite the approval of the project by the City Council in September 2023, Mayor Rogério Cruz initially vetoed the proposal. The problem, according to him, was due to an article that allowed partnerships with the private sector.

However, the Chamber overturned the veto on October 19 of the same year, allowing the project to advance towards the final implementation of the municipal lottery.

Thus, with the hiring of specialized consultancy, the city hall demonstrates its commitment to offering the population of Goiânia another entertainment option.

In addition to providing a new gaming option for the population, the lottery has the potential to generate an additional source of revenue for the city hall.

In other words, the resources collected can be directed towards development and improving the quality of life of citizens. But that’s not all, the lottery can stimulate the local economy, generating direct and indirect jobs and boosting commerce.
