The biggest draw in the history of the Brazilian lottery, the Mega da Virada prize has a new projection of R$570 million, according to Caixa Econômica Federal.

The award update took place this Tuesday, the 19th.

The draw will traditionally take place on the last day of the year, December 31st, at 8 pm. Bettors will be able to watch live on open TV and on Caixa’s social platforms.

While bets can be placed until 5pm on the last day of the year.

Despite the unprecedented amount, the special draw never had a single winner.

The highest individual amount ever won by a winner was R$ 189,062,363.74, when two bettors hit six tens in 2021.

On the other hand, in 2018, 52 bets shared the prize and received R$5,818,007.36.

How to bet on Mega da Virada?

Unlike Mega-Sena‘s regulatory bets – which can be placed until 7pm on the draw date -, Mega da Virada only registers bets until 5pm on the last day of the year.

To do this, simply fill in the specific form at Caixa Lotteries or access the Caixa website or app.

In this last option, the minimum bet amount is R$30 and payment is made by credit card.

In addition, the bettor needs to mark 6 to 20 numbers out of the 60 available. It is also possible to let the system choose the numbers at random, in a so-called “surprise”, or play in a group, in a “pool”.

What is the probability of winning at Mega da Virada?

The probability of success varies according to the number of numbers played.

In a simple bet of six numbers, which costs just 5 reais, the chance is one in 50,063,860, according to Caixa.

It is worth noting that this special draw does not accumulate.

Therefore, if there are no winning bets with six numbers, the prize will be divided between those who match five numbers, and then to those who match four numbers.
