President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) made official last Friday, 3rd, the name of Carlos Vieira as the new president of Caixa Econômica Federal.

The decision was published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union.

He replaces economist Rita Serrano, who has been in charge of Caixa since the beginning of the year.

According to the Cultura website, Carlos Vieira is a career employee at Caixa Econômica Federal. He has also served as CEO of Funcef, the bank’s pension fund.

Furthermore, the new president was part of the executive secretariat of the Ministry of National Integration in 2012.

According to the note from the Communication Secretariat, the president thanked Rita for her work and dedication during these months at the helm of Caixa.

During his administration, 74 consultation rooms for mayors were opened across the country. Thus fulfilling a commitment to create spaces for dialogue with local managers.

“In his management, Serrano fulfilled an important mission of recovering the management and internal culture of Caixa Econômica Federal, with the valorization of the staff and resumption of the bank’s role in various social policies, at the same time increasing its efficiency and profitability, expanding financing for housing, infrastructure and agribusiness”, says the note.

“The federal government will appoint economist Carlos Antônio Vieira Fernandes as president of the bank, continuing the work of Caixa Econômica Federal in offering credit to our economy and implementing public policies in various social, cultural and sporting areas,” he added.

According to Agência Brasil, Carlos Vieira is linked to the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). The exchange takes place amid the government’s movement to expand its support base in the National Congress.

In the same sense, federal deputies André Fufuca (PP-MA) and Silvio Costa Filho (Republicanos-PE) took over the ministries of Sports and Ports and Airports, respectively.
