On Thursday (02/01), the Plenary of the Superior Court of Sports Justice for Football (STJD) announced the decision not to convert penalties for players involved in the match-fixing scheme.

The court clarified that all requests made by athletes punished for this infraction will be rejected.

Furthermore, he highlighted that all fines not paid within the stipulated period will be forwarded and analyzed in light of article 223 of the CBJD.

Operation Maximum Penalty and the match-fixing scheme in Brazilian football

The revelation of the results manipulation scheme in football games occurred at the beginning of 2023, following a complaint from the Public Ministry of Goiás (MP-GO). Primarily focused on Series B games, investigations expanded to the national football elite.

The STJD denounced 15 players, including defender Eduardo Bauermann, who played for Santos when involved in the scandal.

Still, some of these players, such as the former Santos player and striker Alef Manga, who admitted his participation, attempted transfers to foreign clubs.

However, the CBF asked FIFA to expand the punishment to prevent those involved in the scheme from also acting outside the country.

Below are all the players punished by the STJD Plenum:

  2. Eduardo Bauermann (ex-Santos): 360 days and fine of R$35,000
  3. Fernando Neto (former Operário): 360 days and a fine of R$ 15 thousand
  4. Gabriel Domingos (former Vila Nova): Elimination and fine of R$80 thousand
