New Jersey sees record online gaming revenue in May


Online gaming revenue in New Jersey hit a record $246.8 million in May, while the Garden State also reported year-over-year growth across all other market sectors.

Total online gaming revenue in May was $614.7 million, according to data from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. That figure was 20.5 percent higher than the previous year’s total. It was also 14.6 percent higher than April of this year.

For the first time in several months, land-based casinos were the top earners among the three market segments. However, iGaming, which led in New Jersey recently, still stole the show with a record month.

Record month for iGaming in New Jersey

Operators’ iGaming revenue was 28.5% higher than last year and 1.2% above the previous record set in March.

Of that total, $244.2 million was attributed to online slots and table games, a 28.6% increase from last year. The remaining $2.7 million came from online poker, a 22.8% increase.

FanDuel and its partner Golden Nugget Atlantic City once again led the market with $54.5 million in iGaming revenue. Close behind in second place was DraftKings and Resorts Casino Hotel with a monthly take of $48.1 million.

BetMGM and Borgata rounded out the top three with $32.5 million. Other notable operators included Borgata’s standalone platform with $20.8 million in revenue, and Caesars Palace and Tropicana Atlantic City with $18 million.

In New Jersey, retention in sports betting reaches 10.14%

Regarding sports betting, revenue in this segment exceeded US$ 102.5 million in May. This figure exceeded last year’s by 30.2% and was also 13.3% higher than in April this year.

Online betting generated $98 million of all sports betting revenue, up 26.2% from 2024. However, it was retail that saw the biggest improvement, with its $4.5 million total outpacing last year by 326.6%.

In terms of spending, the total amount spent in the month was US$ 1.01 billion, 12.4% more than in May 2024 and 7% more than in April. Customers spent US$ 967.1 million on online bets and US$ 43.5 million at sportsbooks in New Jersey.

Regarding retention, the state’s monthly number reached 10.14%.

With operators FanDuel and Meadowlands continuing to lead the online market, taking in $44.3 million, New Jersey does not publish monthly data on individual operator identifiers.

DraftKings and Resorts Casino Hotel were again in second place with $28.3 million, followed by BetFanatics and Bally’s with $6.2 million. Bet365 and Hard Rock came next with $6 million, ahead of ESPN Bet and Resorts with $4.9 million.

In terms of retail, Meadowlands was the market leader with $4.8 million in revenue.

Land-based casinos recover

After taking a backseat to iGaming for several months, land-based casinos have come back to the forefront, generating more revenue than any other sector. The $265.3 million generated was 10.9% higher than last year.

Slot machine revenue increased 7.5% year-over-year to $194.8 million, while table games revenue increased 21.9% to $70.5 million.

In terms of taxes, New Jersey collected a total of $66.8 million from all sectors in May. Of that total, $37.1 million came from iGaming, $16.5 million from land-based casinos, $12.7 million from online sports betting, and $454,318 from retail sports betting.

Year-to-date, total gaming revenue in the state increased by 6.6% to US$2.74 billion. Of this total, US$1.16 billion came from iGaming, US$1.12 billion from land-based casinos and US$460.2 million from sports betting.
