After discovering the involvement of Esporte Clube Iranduba of Amazonia in a sports betting scheme, the Associação Amazonense de Futebol (FAF) opted to suspend and demote the team to the second division of the Amazonense Championship.

On the last 12th, Iranduba suffered a defeat by 7-0 at home to Amazonas FC, which raised suspicions and made the local federation request an investigation to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The entity produced a report and detailed the document this Monday at a press conference organized by the FAF.

Based on the report presented, the president of the Amazonense Football Federation, Ednailson Rozenha, decided to suspend Iranduba for two years and apply a fine of R$ 100,000. As a result, the team was relegated from the state championship.

The conclusion of the document produced by the CBF indicates that “it is possible that Iranduba is involved in the potential manipulation of the match”. This is due to the fact that odd bets indicated that the team would be defeated by three or more goals in the game against Amazonas FC.

An excerpt from the report produced by the CBF at the request of the local federation reads as follows: “This game raises a credible level of concern from an integrity point of view due to strong bets in favor of the EC Iranduba da Amazônia team losing the match by at least three goals and that at least five goals would be scored in total. Based on available information, it is possible that EC Iranduba was involved in the potential manipulation of the match”.

In the report, the CBF also noted that the bets indicating that there would be at least three goals in the match “proved too robust” and considered that there was a suspicious volume of bets “completely unreasonable”. It is important to note that the team from Amazonas had only conceded three goals so far in the state championship.

In addition, the entity stated that the quotation of the bets were “at non-competitive levels” and the movements were “inconsistent with factors capable of influencing the pre-match markets”.

The decision to consider Iranduba’s posture suspicious was based on four moves that occurred during the match: a wrong exit by the goalkeeper, a failure to mark the defense duo, a slow reaction to a move inside the area and another mistake by the goalkeeper, this time once played by the substitute who had entered the break.

The investigation cited that the Amazonian club had already been denounced for match fixing in 2021, when there was suspicion that the team would lose by at least four goals. However, it ended up being beaten 3-0.
