After a public hearing last Tuesday (19), the Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) of the Federal Senate can vote on a bill that changes the rules for distributing resources from the Timemania lottery among football clubs.
Caixa Econômica Federal grants the prize, but, according to PL 3,723/2021, by senator Veneziano Vital do Rêgo (MDB-PB), the distribution of resources may change.
In the proposal, the resources of each draw will be proportional to the indication marked as “favorite team” by the bettors.
Timemania was created to help football clubs
Timemania aims to benefit Brazilian football clubs, but faces criticism regarding the distribution of the funds raised.
Currently, the teams in series A, B and C of national football receive 22% of the revenue, while the other clubs, which are not in these series, share only 11% of the amount.
Thus, made up of 80 clubs, Timemania has been the subject of discussion due to the unequal treatment between the teams. Teams like Treze, from Paraíba, are negatively affected, even though they are widely voted as “heart team”.
This is because the team rarely participates in series A, B or C of the Brazilian Championship.
Senator Rodrigo Cunha (Podemos-AL) presented a favorable opinion to change this criterion, aiming to benefit all participating clubs more equally.
Therefore, in addition to the distribution of resources, another relevant issue discussed is the forgiveness of debts related to loans. The debt would be in the name of members of community associations in the municipality of Rosário (MA), during the construction of the city’s clothing hub.
Senator Weverton (PDT-MA) highlights that businesspeople persuaded workers associations to sign the loans. In other words, the senator directly holds businesspeople responsible for fraudulent loan debts.
The project has a favorable opinion from the rapporteur, senator Irajá (PSD-TO), and aims to correct this issue.
