Deputy Adolfo Viana (PSDB-BA), rapporteur for the sports betting bill in Brazil, plans to dedicate the next week to conversations with the benches that still have resistance to the project, and that includes evangelical leaders.

For those with whom he communicated, Viana declared that he will keep his agenda available for any parliamentarian who wishes to discuss the content of the project.

However, so far, no deputy with religious inclinations has approached him to discuss the proposal.

It is important to note that members of the evangelical community represent one of the main opposition groups in the Chamber of Deputies in relation to the regulation of sports betting.

The leaders of this group have made it clear that they are firmly opposed to any form of regulation of gambling.

Another discussion that the rapporteur should lead the following week is related to the rate that will be applied to companies in the sector.

The main objective is to establish a percentage that motivates companies to adhere to legalization.

In the provisional measure sent by the government, which accompanies the sports betting bill, the government proposed a rate of 18%.

This rate would be applied in addition to other taxes, such as the Social Contribution on Net Income (CSLL), the Social Integration Program (PIS) and the Contribution for the Financing of Social Security (Cofins).

The project, submitted by the government under an urgent regime, is scheduled to be voted on in the week following the Independence Day holiday (7/9).

This will occur because the project will have priority on the parliamentary agenda, starting to overlap other agendas.

Sports betting PM will undergo changes

The manipulation scandal in Brazilian football led the Federal Government to make changes to the mechanisms for monitoring the sports betting PM.

An internal document dated July 5 reveals that two new elements were incorporated into the final version of the provisional measure (MP) in response to fraud perpetrated by players.

The authorship of the report is attributed to Fernanda Cimbra Santiago, special advisor to Minister Fernando Haddad, and the document was obtained through the Law on Access to Information (LAI).
