The leaders of the evangelical bench are proposing an articulation against the provisional measure (PM) of sports betting that is being prepared by the Ministry of Finance. The intention of the folder is to forward this text to the Federal Congress that will establish rules and the taxation of the activity in Brazil still in the month of April.

According to information from the column by journalist Guilherme Amado, from Metrópoles, one of the leaders of the bench, deputy Marco Feliciano (PL-SP), claimed that “deputies would not be able to explain to voters a vote in favor of the PM”.

Still according to the parliamentarian, “today, this is the spirit of the bench”. He is one of the six vice presidents of the Evangelical Parliamentary Front (FPE). Today, the front brings together 135 deputies and 12 senators.

It is worth mentioning that the sports betting PM intends to define specific rules and taxation for the sector, and not to release the practice in the national territory, which already happened in December 2018 in the final stretch of the government of President Michel Temer. Feliciano declared that, despite this, the tendency is for the bench to vote against the measure.

Another deputy with a contrary position is Sóstenes Cavalcante, from the Rio de Janeiro PL. “We are against any project about the game,” he said. Sóstenes led the evangelical bench until last year and, today, occupies a vice-presidency in the FPE.

The president of the bench, deputy Eli Borges, from the PL of Tocantins, also reinforced that he is against any type of game. He has already publicly communicated that the FPE will oppose the MP.

Deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE) should be the rapporteur for the sports betting MP

According to information gathered by Poder360, deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE) should be the rapporteur for the PM on sports betting, which regulates the segment in Brazil. Carreras is close to the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and has already acted as rapporteur for the project that legalized these bets.

The government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is preparing a text to regulate and tax the sector. One of the Executive’s proposals is to establish a rate of 15% on the GGR (Gross Gaming Revenue), that is, the gross collection of sports betting companies, discounting the amount paid in prizes to bettors.
