Minister Alexandre Padilha, of Institutional Relations, highlighted on Monday, October 30, the government’s urgency in approving economic guidelines. According to him, these guidelines are crucial for budget stability. This Tuesday, the 31st, President Lula and allied leaders will discuss the matter. One of the topics highlighted is the taxation of sports betting.

Padilha revealed that Planalto awaits the finalization of the vote soon. The proposal, already approved in the Chamber in September, awaits a vote in the Senate Sports Committee.

Deadline for approval of betting taxation

The proposal will also go through the Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) and the Senate plenary. If it undergoes changes, it will return to the Chamber.

“The deadline for approval is November,” said Padilha.

With this measure, it is estimated that revenue will be collected between R$1.6 billion and R$5 billion in 2024.

At Tuesday’s meeting, ministers Fernando Haddad and Simone Tebet will be present. According to Poder 360, party leaders will also participate.

Minister Alexandre Padilha highlighted that the change in ICMS is now a priority. If approved, the predicted impact is R$26.3 billion in 2024. Previously, the forecast was R$35.3 billion.

Next week, there will be another meeting with leaders in the Senate. In addition to betting taxation, tax reform is a key agenda. Other topics include the taxation of offshore funds and exclusive funds (PL 4,173 of 2023), recently approved in the Chamber.

Processing of betting regulation project in the Senate

The sporting world is attentive to political movements. In focus is the bill related to betting. According to information, the Sports Commission is analyzing this project.

Voting can take place this Wednesday, November 1st. The project must have changes compared to the proposal approved in the Chamber in September.

This project has generated expectations, mainly due to the economic and sporting implications. Legalizing betting could bring significant financial benefits. Furthermore, part of the funds can be allocated to the Federal Police and the Ministry of Health.
