West Virginia registers $28 million in sports betting in June

The West Virginia Lottery reported that residents of the US state spent about $28 million on sports betting in June.

The number is down 12% compared to the May figure and also down 15.7% year-over-year. Around $25 million was wagered online, while retail sports betting totaled $3 million.

West Virginia sportsbook revenue was $2.6 million, down 25.4% from May. Retention dropped from 10.8% in the previous month to 9.3%.

The state, which has a 10% tax rate, collected $261,000 in taxes in June, up from $294,361 in May.

State gaming and sports betting market numbers

West Virginia took in $20.8 million in igaming taxes and $5.3 million in sports betting during the last fiscal year, up from $12.9 million in igaming and $4.5 million in sports betting in the fiscal year 2022.

The US state keeps $17.5 million from gaming taxes, while $3.1 million goes to administering the state program and $177,000 goes towards employee pensions.

There were US$ 4 billion in gambling bets, with casinos earning US$ 139 million. West Virginia reported $455.5 million in mobile sports betting and $71.6 million in retail installations during the fiscal year.
