The Government of the Province of Buenos Aires has signed four of the seven licenses it has granted for online betting in its territory, so that BetWarrior, Bplay, William Hill and Bet365 can start offering betting in the coming weeks.
Through Law No. 15,079, the local government regulated the activity in different modalities, and authorized the granting of up to seven licenses for 15 years. This public process started in 2019, during the government of María Eugenia Vidal, and in parallel with the City of Buenos Aires, where it should also start operating before the end of the year.
The licenses signed cover four companies, formed by a local and a foreign partner, and may start operating in the coming months. The companies “are able to sign the respective agreement that will unite their relations with this Institute”, as stated in the minutes of the Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos.
The brands went through a bidding process with a series of patrimonial and legal accreditations. In tax terms, under Resolution 795, each licensee paid US$5.5 million at the time of ordering and must pay US$65,000,000 as a single fixed charge, in addition to payments of royalties (10%) and taxes, licensees must pay as soon as they go into operation.
Brands already approved to offer online betting in the province
Of the companies mentioned, BetWarrior is formed by Hipódromo de Palermo and Casino de Buenos Aires. It also includes the participation of the Danish company Shape, which currently operates the Danish lottery, and Intralot. Launched three years ago, BetWarrior operates across much of Latin America.
In turn, Bplay is a brand of Grupo Boldt and 888, and already provides online games in Paraguay and in the province of Santa Fé. .
While William Hill is associated in Argentina with Argenbingo, a company that operates Bingo de Moreno and has 30 years of experience in the sector. Finally, the renowned Bet365 is linked to “Bingo Begui”, from Berazategui (province of Buenos Aires).
There are three more companies authorized to operate in the Province of Buenos Aires, which have not yet managed to sign their licenses. They are Playtech, Pokerstars and Betsson, all associated with a local operator.
Thus, the launch of online betting is being prepared in the largest province in the country. The city of Buenos Aires, one of the most important markets in Argentina, is also about to give its approval, but with different characteristics.
