The British government has appointed Fiona Twycross as gambling minister during a shake-up of the responsibilities of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
This happened after Labor won the general election. The change gives greater importance to the gambling sector, with the appointment of an exclusive minister.
Fiona Twycross sits in the House of Lords
Currently a member of the House of Lords, Baroness Fiona Twycross sat on the London Assembly from 2012 to 2020 and was the first deputy mayor of London.
Before entering politics, Fiona Twycross worked for Diabetes UK. She specialized in Scandinavian Studies at the University of Edinburgh and has a PhD in contemporary Scandinavian literature. He later studied Public Policy and Administration at Birkbeck, University of London.
Stephanie Peacock, Labor MP for Barnsley South, had initially been appointed parliamentary under-secretary of state for sport, gambling and civil society and equalities minister under the new secretary of state Lisa Nandy.
Therefore, she was the most likely candidate to take responsibility for gambling policy, having accompanied Stuart Andrew while the Labor Party was in opposition.
Peacock took over as minister of sport, media, civil society and youth. The gambling area is now under the responsibility of Fiona Twycross. Meanwhile, the DCMS was completed by Sir Chris Bryant MP, who was appointed minister for creative industries, arts and tourism.
