Stephanie Peacock, Labor MP for Barnsley South, has been appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, likely paving the way for her to become the UK’s new Games Minister.

Stephanie Peacock’s role in the department is yet to be determined, but she served as Deputy Minister for Media, Gambling and Sport until last week’s general election, in which she retained her South Yorkshire seat as part of a landslide victory for the labor.

Stephanie Peacock has experience with the gambling market

Stephanie Peacock has shown herself to be a champion of British horse racing over the past year. She previously argued that “the future of racing must be protected for generations to come” during a debate in October. He was also among several MPs who visited Doncaster in 2023 as guests of the Arena Racing Company.

In February, Stephanie Peacock took part in the debate on accessibility checks. According to her, it “has raised concerns not just for the racing and betting industry, but for the tens of thousands of members of the public who have signed a petition to end them.”

Thus, the MP, who spoke at the annual meeting of the Betting and Gaming Council, supported the Grand National’s charitable betting campaign.

Then, in a post on X, Peacock wrote: “It’s an honor to have been asked by the Prime Minister to serve in our new Labor government. I can’t wait to start working at DCMS with Lisa Nandy.

Last week, Nandy became Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s first Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. Therefore, the Wigan MP will be tasked with making decisions that will affect racing and betting in the UK. It will therefore determine the future of affordability checks and consider races’ attempts to achieve fee reform.
