This Tuesday, the 14th, the constitutional urgency of Bill nº 3,626/2023, which deals with the regulation of sports betting in Brazil, was withdrawn (according to Message nº 586, from the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva published in the Diário Union Official).

As a consequence, the Federal Senate agenda was unblocked and other matters could be voted on. The withdrawal of urgency comes in response to a request from the President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, who sought to deliberate on other topics this week.

In other words, PL nº 3,626/2023 had already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies and is currently being considered by the Federal Senate, in the Sports Committee, where it has already been approved, and in the Economic Affairs Committee (CAE), where it is still under deliberation. .

Subsequently, it must be submitted to the plenary of the same House for consideration. The expectation is that it will be voted on, even without urgency, next week.

The challenge will be for the project to be submitted for final approval by the Chamber of Deputies, which will no longer have an urgent constitutional deadline.

The text that provides for the regulation of sports betting deals with a series of issues for the operation of companies. The list includes relevant points such as advertising, operating authorization, company taxation, granting time and distribution of revenue.
