The last meeting of the Brazilian iGaming industry in 2024 took place in Florianópolis (SC). IGI Expo 2024 was held between the 12th and 15th, bringing together representatives from the affiliate, betting and gaming segments.
Valter Delfraro, from GLI, participated in the opening panel of the convention: “Regulatory State that Transformed the Gaming Scenario in Brazil”, on Thursday. In an interview with the iGaming Brazil portal, he highlighted the importance of meetings in different regions of Brazil.
“I think it’s very important. Florianópolis is a point where there are many game providers, platform providers. Promoting these events is essential”, he highlighted.
Brazilian regulation
Regarding the moment of transition of the national market, Delfraro pointed out that the biggest challenge for operators will be to comply “with the regulations to start operating. I think that at this moment is what everyone is thinking and focused on.”
However, the biggest challenge will be combating illegal gaming platforms. “It will be a challenge for them (regulatory bodies) to keep only those that have regulations on the regulated market. They will need to look closely at this”, he projected, considering the difficulty in banning irregular sites.
On the other hand, Valter Delfraro assessed that Brazilian standards are in line with best international practices. “Our regulations have been very strengthened, with a lot of foundation and leave nothing to be desired compared to regulations in other jurisdictions.”
Furthermore, the GLI representative highlighted that 2025 will be essential to present official data on the Brazilian player. “It is very difficult to give an opinion on game categories, it is a market issue. There are some categories that we hear about that are Brazilians’ favorites. Starting next year, we will begin to have data to understand and see how the market will behave”, he explained.
The future of the gaming market in Brazil
It is worth mentioning that the Senate postponed the debate on the project that provides for the operation of casinos and bingos in the country. There is still no forecast for the return of the bill to the House Plenary, as it will need to go through some committees.
“It’s an expectation that exists. If you look at how we are advancing in the online market, I hope there is a chance it will pass and it will be legalized and regulated in Brazil. As I always say, gambling exists, and legalization is the best way to make it transparent and safe for society”, he concluded.
