The State of iGaming 2025: 11 Industry Drivers (Part 1)

2025 is shaping up to be a year of limits when it comes to growth. Stricter regulations, rising acquisition costs, and cautious investors are forcing operators to treat compliance, payments, and data as genuine competitive advantages. Atlaslive analyzed what’s driving iGaming this year and provides insights into the five forces already shaping the market.

1. AI in Operations

Artificial intelligence is no longer limited to experimentation, but rather to margins and oversight. Operators are using models to personalize lobbies and offers, detect fraud networks without blocking genuine players, and act on early signs of problem gambling. Used well, AI becomes a compliance and revenue tool.

2. Stricter AML and licensing rules

New regulations, such as Law No. 14,790, impose stricter barriers to entry with capital requirements, identity checks, and transaction monitoring. Compliance is now directly linked to market access and investor confidence.

3. Payment as a market gatekeeper

Brazil’s PIX system demonstrates how payments simultaneously define user experience and regulation. PIX dominates iGaming transactions, while credit cards and international transfers are restricted. For operators, adapting the payment strategy is as important as game design.

4. AR/VR as a differentiator

Immersive technology is expanding beyond experiments. AR adds interactive layers to mobile games, while VR offers premium experiences for specific audiences. The focus isn’t on mass adoption, but rather on finding scalable use cases that increase engagement.

5. Mobile-first experiences

For Gen Z and on-the-go users, mobile-first means speed, intuitiveness, and short attention spans. Interfaces need to load instantly, onboarding should be simple, and gameplay should be designed for one-thumb operation.

What else?

These five forces are already reshaping the market in 2025. They are separating operators poised for sustained growth from those still treating them as optional. This was Part 1 of the insights article.

Atlaslive will continue exploring these dynamics in Part 2, where six more factors will be presented.
