The sports betting CPI that investigates manipulation in football matches will hear, this Wednesday, the 13th, the president of the Ethics Commission of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Carlos Renato Azevedo.

The author of the request to hold the meeting is deputy Danilo Forte (União-CE), who intends to debate the attitudes that the entity has been adopting to curb fraud in sport.

According to him, Azevedo’s presence is “extremely important so that, together with this Legislative House, we can build measures that contribute to guaranteeing the safety of the sport itself.”

The meeting of the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) is scheduled for 2:30 pm in plenary 8, in the Chamber of Deputies.

The topic of the public hearing will be the Brazilian Football Ethics Commission (CEFB) and guest Carlos Renato Azevedo has already confirmed his participation.

Possibility of extending the work of the sports betting CPI

The sports betting CPI may be extended by the President of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). The information came from parliamentarians who are part of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee and was published on the Poder360 website.

However, the opening period of the initial sports betting CPI ends this Thursday, 14th.

Also according to Poder360, the expectation was that Felipe Carreras would present the final report for voting this Monday, but the analysis was postponed. The members intended to vote on other requests.

The rapporteur asked to analyze the requests on Wednesday, 12th, as they would not be “harmed” given the “signal” that the CPI may have its deadline increased.

In the middle of last month, the sports betting CPI approved the request to extend the period of activities by two months. The request needs to be approved by the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies.

However, the advisor to the president of the sports betting CPI, Júlio Arcoverde (PP-PI), claimed that there is no confirmation that Arthur Lira would have agreed to extend the collegiate.

The Chamber president’s advisors, in turn, told Poder360 that they were “unaware” of such negotiations between the two parliamentarians.
