Iowa reports sports betting generated more than $280 million in October

Iowa sports bookmakers generated more than $280 million in betting in October, breaking a record $70 million in September.

The state’s sports bookmakers collected more on betting over the past three months ($599.8 million) than in the entire year of 2020 ($575.2 million).

Eric Ramsey, a PlayUSA analyst, commented, “With the baseball postseason, the start of the NBA, and a football-filled calendar, punters have found a lot to bet on.”

“Iowa has also taken a significant leap in maturity as more traders appear and Iowa is starting to feel more comfortable with online sports betting. A mature market and a busy sports calendar proved to be a powerful combination,” added Ramsey.

Iowa Sports Betting Numbers

The state’s online and retail sports betting moved $280.9 million in betting, up 243% from October 2020. Players wagered an average of $9.1 million a day during the month.

Since the launch of Iowa Sports Bookmakers, betting has generated $2.3 billion in betting.

Gamblers showed greater interest in online betting, which represented 89% of the October value, while retail betting represented US$31 million.

Caesars led the online market with $97 million in betting, while DraftKings followed with $76.4 million. The retail market was led by Diamond Jo Worth, with $7.2 million in bets, and Ameristar Council Bluffs came in second with a $7.1 million handle.

Ramsey concluded: “Iowa is an alluring market for traders because it has a fair regulatory framework and major players like FanDuel and DraftKings don’t dominate the market as much as they do in other states. highlight, which does not exist in larger and more established markets”.
