Last Friday (14), the Prizes and Bets Secretariat of the Ministry of Treasury (SPA-MF) participated in the Consumer Seminar in the Digital Environment. The event, held by the Public Ministry of Espírito Santo (MPES), took place in the auditorium of the Attorney General’s Office, in Vitória.
The central objective was to train prosecutors and civil servants on online betting and banking fraud in the digital environment.
Carolina Yumi de Souza, deputy secretary of SPA, highlighted the importance of supervision of online betting companies by the Federal Government.
Among the SPA’s main responsibilities are combating illegal websites, betting manipulation and money laundering, working together with police and public ministries in Brazil.
Furthermore, the Secretariat acts against offering bets on prohibited events and distributing illegal bonuses. According to Carolina Yumi de Souza, “Coordinated action between the various State bodies is essential, especially in the defense of bettors.”
Thus, she highlighted that meetings like this are valuable opportunities to exchange information and experiences, which improves sector regulation and develops more effective mechanisms to protect the population and combat illegal companies.
Actions involving betting operators
In the month of January alone, 75 inspections of betting operators were carried out. Two thirds of the actions were to combat the actions of influencers who advertised illegal betting sites.
In addition to cracking down on fraud, the SPA also focuses on responsible gaming and protecting bettors. Recognizing that the topic requires interdisciplinary approaches, the Ministry of Treasury cooperates with the Ministries of Health and Sports.
They established a Working Group with the Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom) and signed a cooperation agreement with the National Consumer Secretariat, part of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP).
Finally, these actions demonstrate a continuous effort to improve the regulatory structure for betting in Brazil, always seeking to protect the consumer and ensure that the digital environment is increasingly safe and fair.
