The International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPRO) and UEFA have joined forces, signing a cooperation agreement that recognizes the Red Button application as the official platform for professional football players to report suspected incidents of match-fixing.

Developed almost a decade ago in Finland, the Red Button app has become a central element in FIFPRO‘s efforts to prevent match-fixing.

Complementing other reporting tools developed by football’s governing bodies, such as UEFA’s integrity platform, Red Button offers players a secure and anonymous way to report potential wrongdoing.

Players may choose to provide contact information, but confidentiality is guaranteed unless expressly agreed otherwise.

FIFPRO and UEFA: Closer coordination

The new cooperation agreement allows FIFPRO to share information received via the Red Button app with UEFA‘s anti-match fixing unit.

In this way, this close collaboration will facilitate coordination in the fight against match-fixing, a central objective of the new action plan approved by the UEFA Executive Committee in July 2021.

The active participation of the entire football community is crucial to identifying and dismantling corruption schemes that threaten the integrity of the sport and the lives of professional players.

Promoting a culture of recognition, rejection and reporting is key, a message emphasized by both UEFA and FIFPRO. Thus, everyone involved in football has a common interest in preserving its integrity.
