Municipal Lottery of Foz do Iguaçu is approved by the Chamber

Last Thursday, the 13th, the Chamber of Foz do Iguaçu approved the PL establishing the creation of the Municipal Lottery of Foz do Iguaçu, called Lotoeste.

The main objective of this initiative is to generate funds for priority investments in social assistance and sports development.

The project, signed by councilors Ney Patrício (PSD) and Edivaldo Alcântara (PTB), received a new wording and had 12 votes in favor and two against, by councilors Galhardo (Republicans) and Marcio Rosa (PSD).

Now, the matter will be forwarded to the Executive for the sanction of the Mayor.

In 2020, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) decided that the exploitation of lotteries is not exclusive to the Union, thus allowing states and municipalities to also implement their own lotteries.

The new municipal lottery of Foz: Lotoeste

Lotoeste will cover several lottery modalities, including passive lotteries, numerical and/or sports predictions, instant lotteries and other modalities provided for in federal legislation.

All details can be checked in full in the Legislative Process Support System (SAPL).

With regard to the financial resources raised through betting or the sale of Lotoeste tickets, they will be allocated in accordance with current legislation and with the provisions defined by decree of the Executive Branch.

In addition to social assistance and sports development, the project also foresees that surplus resources not committed to future payments may be used for amortization and payment of municipal public debt service.

The bill also ensures the implementation of guarantee systems, through partnerships, concessions or permissions, to guarantee security against tampering or counterfeiting of lottery tickets.

Foz’s new municipal lottery will pave the way for obtaining more fundamental resources to assist in projects and sectors of the city.
