Approved in the Chamber of Deputies in February of this year, the proposal that regulates the Legal Framework for the Games is still waiting for consideration in the Senate. The trend is that the agenda will be debated later this year, after the elections. The information is from federal deputy Bacelar (PV), a member of the Mixed Parliamentary Front for the Approval of the Regulatory Framework for Gambling in Brazil.

“We approved it in the first semester, the matter went to the Federal Senate and is awaiting the designation of a rapporteur to go to the plenary. The expectation is that he will vote this year, the president of the Senate has signaled that soon after the election he would put the matter [on the agenda ] regardless of who is elected”, said the parliamentarian in an interview with Bahia Notícias.

According to the bill, casinos will be able to operate integrated into an entertainment center that will need to have at least 100 high-end rooms, space for conventions and social events, restaurants, bars and shopping centers. The casino environment may have 20% of the built area of the leisure center, offering electronic games, roulette, card games and other activities.

The state that counts a population above 25 million can receive up to three casinos. According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), only São Paulo complies with this standard. For states with a population between 15 million and 25 million, the limit will be two casinos. Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro fit this measure. In other cases, with a population of up to 15 million, there may be only one casino.

Candidates for the post of Rapporteur of the Legal Framework for the Gambling

So far, Senators Angelo Coronel (PSD) and Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil) are the most quoted for the post of rapporteur of the project. The two senators are supporters of the liberalization of the games and even mentioned that the Legal Framework for the Games could help pay for the new salary floor for nursing.

“It’s no use voting for flooring without having a place to get the money to pay. The legalization of games, which is being processed in this House, already approved in the Federal Chamber, may prove to be the solution to the problem”, said Angelo Coronel at the time.
