Inter Miami's Xavier Asensi explains how the 2026 World Cup can help boost football in the US

The 2023 edition of SPORTEL Rendez-vous Miami kicked off this Tuesday, the 9th, at the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay, which just underwent a $50 million transformation. The team at the iGaming Brazil portal is providing extensive on-site coverage of the event and has exclusively interviewed Inter Miami CF’s commercial director, Xavier Asensi.

Asensi explained how the upcoming World Cup, which will take place in Mexico, the United States and Canada, will help to further leverage soccer on North American soil. According to the executive, the 1994 World Cup was decisive for the consolidation of the MLS, a professional soccer league, and this effect should be repeated in 2026.

“Because of the 1994 World Cup we ended up having the MLS, the professional football league here. Three decades later, we will have the World Cup in 2026 and the Copa America that will take place here next year and will only bring positive things. It will be an amazing experience for the community.”

Xavier Asensi also pointed out that the city of Miami is going through a period of prominence for having the five main sports leagues, even hosting the Formula 1 Grand Prix in the coming days. “The ecosystem we have here in Miami is incomparable”, which allows “to create all these synergies with other franchises and other sports”, he concluded.
