In 2024, gambling revenue in New Jersey reached an impressive record of $6.3 billion. This value represents a 9% increase compared to the previous record of US$5.78 billion.

According to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE), two of the three gambling sectors recorded growth, while land-based casinos showed a decline.

In 2024, iGaming stood out with a 24% increase in revenue, which reached US$2.39 billion. Although still behind land-based casinos, which generated US$2.82 billion, iGaming has shown potential to become the main source of revenue in the state.

About $2.36 billion of iGaming revenue came from online slots and table games, while poker revenue fell 1.5% to $28.5 million.

New Jersey Gaming Industry Leaders

In the iGaming sector, DraftKings and Resorts Casino Hotel led the way with $515 million in revenue, followed by FanDuel and Golden Nugget Atlantic City with $506.6 million. BetMGM and Borgata came in third with $287.7 million. Golden Nugget was the top master licensee, generating $688.9 million in revenue.

Sports betting revenue in New Jersey also reached a new record of $1.09 billion, growing 8.7%. Gamblers spent a total of $12.77 billion on sports betting, including $12.27 billion on online bets. The state’s annual retention was 8.54%.

FanDuel led the sports betting market with $459.4 million in revenue. DraftKings, in partnership with Resorts Casino Hotel, came in second with $289.1 million, while BetMGM and Borgata came in third with $70.7 million.

Land-based casinos

However, the land-based casino sector saw a 1.1% drop in revenue, totaling $2.82 billion. Slot machine revenue fell 0.7%, while table games revenue shrank 2.0%.

MGM’s Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa led this sector with $738.1 million in revenue, followed by the Hard Rock with $544.9 million and the Ocean Resort with $409.7 million.

As of December 2024, total revenue reached US$522.6 million, with igaming setting a new record of US$228.0 million. However, sports betting revenue fell 42.6% due to favorable results for customers. MGM’s Borgata was the best-performing land-based casino, recording revenue of $62.7 million.

Thus, 2024 was a year of important milestones for New Jersey, with igaming and sports betting driving the growth of gambling revenue in the state.
