Pennsylvania gaming revenue grows 11.4% in July

Pennsylvania casinos and sportsbooks brought in $557.7 million in revenue in July, according to data from the State Gaming Control Board (PGCB). This represents an 11.4% increase over last year, with iGaming once again the main driver.

The numbers highlight a trend that’s been building for months. Gamers are shifting more spending online, and leading properties in this segment are quickly standing out from the rest.

Hollywood Casino leads the group

No other property matched its online dominance. At the top, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course reported $103.4 million in revenue. A large chunk of this came from iGaming, which alone generated $87.8 million, a 37.2% increase compared to July 2024.

For Hollywood, the results are part of a broader series of strong months. It has thus become the benchmark operator in online gaming, consistently outperforming its rivals in volume and growth rate.

The rest of the industry, however, isn’t standing still. Valley Forge Casino Resort brought in $88.8 million, a 19.2% increase, with online revenue rising to $61.2 million, an increase of more than a third.

Rivers Casino Philadelphia also surged, reaching $57.5 million, with online contributions of $37.8 million, a 26.6% increase.

Slots Show Steady, But Uneven Growth in Pennsylvania

Traditional gaming is still important, but results vary by property. Slot machines across the state generated $208.5 million in July, a 2.1% increase over the same month last year.

The leader was Parx Casino, with US$30.9 million, although the gain was minimal, at just US$300,000 year-on-year.

Other properties reported mixed results. Wind Creek Bethlehem‘s slot machine revenue fell 3.8% to $23 million, while Rivers Casino Pittsburgh gained ground, rising 2.7% to $22.6 million.

Sports betting falls after a heated June

A small drop, but overall betting levels remain strong. Sports betting revenue was $40.6 million, a 0.5% decrease compared to July last year. The total amount wagered was $412.5 million.

The two that stood out were Valley Forge Casino, which took in $15.5 million from $140.9 million in wagers, and Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, which reported $11.3 million from $112.3 million in wagering activity.

The decline is modest, especially considering that June was exceptionally strong, with sports betting revenue increasing more than 70% year-over-year. The seasonal sports calendar always plays a role, and July tends to be slower compared to the peak activity months of the fall.

Regulators remain active

The PGCB balanced revenue reporting with compliance updates. In addition to financial results, the PGCB closely monitored the behavior of operators.

In late June, the regulator added 15 people to its involuntary exclusion list, including three adults who left minors unattended while gambling. Another 18 individuals had their gaming licenses revoked.

The board also renewed the licenses of Presque Isles Downs and Casino and Hollywood Casino Morgantown, decisions that ensure the continued operation of both establishments.

These updates reinforce the regulator’s dual role: reporting record revenues while enforcing accountability across the industry.
